Is Chinese modern art the greatest movement since Cubism? Since the end of Maos reign, art works emerging from China have taken the world by storm. We hear from some of Chinas most exciting artists.

Artists who lived in rural poverty only a decade ago now shake their heads in wonder as their works fetch millions of dollars in London and New York. This period of history has been as exciting as Paris would have been in the early 1900s, tells art historian Karen Smith. Out of this kind of incredible period of innovation people will emerge who will be remembered as Picasso, Matisse were. Lui Xioadong is one of these talented artists. Xioadong has become a revered cynical realist painter and has recently sold at a record US$9.3 million. It is a remarkable phenomenon when you think that within our lifetime, a single artists life has changed so dramatically in every way.

  • Unwatchable due to Journeymantext unfortunately.

  • Why don't you lose the "JOURNEYMAN TV" across the top of the video. it destroys the effect entirley.

  • this host is an idiot "after years of isolation"? China has not been isolated since 1978 when it was opened up!

  • @QuantumQuacks Sorry you forfeit any reply considering you work on the stock market...good luck on spending your money in the afterlife anyway!

  • Anyway China has an outstanding art heritage thousands years old .

  • @discoverydavid don't bother , he'sjust drunk!

  • I'm guessing that they have misunderstood my comment, and think that I am criticizing China or artists. No, what I am criticizing are the art dealers, investment brokers, bankers etc and the makers of this documentary who have done nothing but perpetuate the disease of expressionism as a financial commodity. They have no interest in art whatsoever, their only there to exploit...Example, the prick at 1.39 eloquent-spokesmen of bullshit.
