I clearly remember when I first heard this song.
The words are just so powerful that it's so difficult not to ponder about its meaning.
The tune is so catchy, it could linger in your brain for a long time.
.... and the SAX is so psyche-piercing that it defined a music trend.
I used to not like listening to sax solo until I heard this song, which became a milestone of my appreciation of the power and beauty of sax.

  • Thankyou and wow what great job! This wonderful song is also a personal favorite of mine having many magical and mystical meanings...I love Gerry's songs!

  • This song makes me think of the two words: Sexy. Time. Yes, it does indeed ooze charm and sex appeal. Thanks Gerry Raggerty. And RIP

  • This song was a symphonic metal song long before anyone knew what that was. WHAT A CLASSIC! A masterpiece really.

  • warning: saxual content.

  • wow, it's been 34 years.... what the hell happened?

    still, thanks! love this song.

  • In this song, Gerry Rafferty is actually slagging off Baker Street, and London in general. The clue is in the second verse.

"This city desert makes you feel so cold It's got so many people but it's got no soul And it's taken you so long to find out you were wrong When you thought it held everything"

This is why London never used it as a promotional song.

I think this is most visitor's experience of London.

  • a want to here a remake for a tribute to this artist
