VU-Kamerkoor: MacMillan - Te Deum (part 2 of 2)

Three LOUD dissonant organ chords (mind the volume of your speakers!), the one even louder than the other, open this second part of James MacMillan's Te Deum (2002). This in sharp contrast to the simple beauty of the following vocal melodies. The plea for God's mercy gives way to a fugatic part and a homophonic, confident song of praise, that is disrupted by yet more sharp, devastating organ chords, through which the choir maintains their part, and bring the Te Deum to a happy ending. Maybe a rock-solid belief and trust in the midst of turmoil and hardship, even if we inflict this upon ourselves.

Hi Peter, we are a chamber choir consisting of (ex-)students of two Amsterdam universities (the Vrije Universiteit being our namegiver and mecenas). We count medics, economists, linguists, psychologists and even a coffee-seller among us. We have a tyrant of a conductor whom we love to whip us in the right direction. Muscally we dwell among hardly known territory (such as this programme) and rock-solid choral programmes that pay the bill for the modern music. If you have any questions, ask away!

I very much enjoyed the singing of this choir with sopranos hat could reach those high notes in tune. I was at a concert last night in WELLS CATHEDRAL Somerset at which a world premiere of Macmillan's "fiat mihi" was performed.Tell me more of the Kamerkoor.  PETER SCRIVEN
