Laura U. Marks, Ph.D. is a scholar, media theorist, and curator whose programs of film, video and experimental media have been exhibited internationally. She is the Dena Wosk University Professor in Art and Culture Studies in the School for the Contemporary Arts at Simon Fraser University, and a professor at the European Graduate School.
Her latest work, Enfoldment and Infinity: An Islamic Genealogy of New Media Art (2010), returns to her previous concerns of visual culture and cultural knowledge, which is an approach that is both specific and historical in nature, examining the touching points of classical Islamic art/philosophy, and contemporary New Media. Other works include: Touch: Sensuous Theory and Multisensory Media (University of Minnesota Press, 2002); The Skin of the Film: Intercultural Cinema, Embodiment, and the Senses, (Duke University Press, 1999).
