http://www.ProGuitarShop.com - Here it is, the Maxon OD-808 Overdrive pedal! This was one of the first overdrive pedals to emulate tube amp overdrive with a solid state circuit. The OD-808 is also one of the most imitated pedals in stompbox history. The Maxon OD-808 Overdrive is one of Maxon's Reissue series. The only difference between this one and the original is a change in output resistors in order to reduce noise from static electricity buildup. Otherwise, the OD-808 is true to the original, featuring a signal distorting diode in the negative feedback loop which causes the signal to distort in the amplifier circuit instead of after. The Maxon OD-808 Overdrive pedal also features the infamous JRC4558 (of course!).

Smooth and creamy. That's the tone of the Maxon OD-808 Overdrive pedal. That sought after sound that everyone and their sister has tried to imitate and improve on is contained in the OD-808. This pedal needs no improvements, the overdrive is thick and creamy with singing sustain. The harmonically rich tone is easily cleaned up with a roll of the guitar's volume knob. If the search for the perfect tube screamer has got you down, the Maxon OD-808 Overdrive pedal will lift you back up and end that pesky nagging in the back of your head that your tone could be better.

  • @8thEastTexasBlues this is a tubescreamer

  • @NickWayne100 wrong pedal for that, why do people always ask"can it do metal" the market is flooded with amps and pedals tha can do that, a line 6 will do fine for most metal, the modern metal tone dosent have the nuances of other styles and is fairly easy to achieve with scooped mids and lots of gain

  • Tube screamers are great!! Even on a nice solid-state. Most solid-state amps emulate to their best ability a tube amp! Just have to set it the way you like it! Tube screamers are great cuz you can set them for any genre of music...kinda like fender telecasters ..they'll go with anything pretty well! Get this pedal doesn't matter on the amp! Get a ibanez jet driver a big muff pi with wicker switch a tuner by boss and a boss dd-7 ...and then whatever else you want! Great board right there!

  • @socccero

The metal band Iron Maiden used the Tube Screamer, an overdrive pedal, for pretty much all, if not all, of their songs.

  • @NickWayne100 This is an Overdrive PEdal and not a fucking Distortion Pedal!

  • how does this compare to a tubescreamer? I like tubescreamers but I hate that midrange hump that they have

  • @NickWayne100 stop playing so much metal....it seems to make you agressive...

  • @zeitlin rock and metal are both great, its just about taste really, but metal is better for OD pedal reviews because the metal sound is far more complex where as the rock tone is just a nice crunchy tube amp :).

  • its funny that ppl care what op amp is in it. it makes little to no difference and i bet 99% of people couldnt tell the difference if you swapped it out for another.

  • I hate guitar reviews playing metal! rock is much more autentic and you can really hear and fill the notes
