  • Malinois were designed to go 24-7 on a farm herding or in a search and rescue. So if you like to exercise every day 45 minutes to 2 hours then yes the breed is for you. But even then they are VERY high energy and like I said can go all day.

This is why most malinoises have anxiety because they plainly do not get enough exercise AND mental stimulation daily.

Mine get 1 mile on the tread, a 1 hour brisk walk on a heel and 15-20 minutes of straight running off leash. THEY ARE A LOT OF WORK!

  • Thank you for the compliment!

As you may know Malinoises are high energy dogs, in my females case, she is off the charts high energy! LOL

So to intensify her work out and to slow her down "a little" so she doesn't circle my car, I put her agitation harness on her so she can comfortably pull 15lbs of chain.

Its pretty much the same as putting a back pack on a dog to intensify there walk or jog, but she seems to like being a sled dog at the beach:)

  • can you answer me.....2 of them who is the femelle ou male.....had confusion..??

  • My cub get's one mile in the AM and two miles PM that includes a swim, year round!

  • @Maat922 Yea I just got him he is five months old and needs an hour bike run daily. I am planning to do agility and maybe schuzthund with him. I still have a time yet to tire him out and if he is a little tired then he is ready to go back in an hour!

  • @BelgianMalinoisfreak You'd better be the type of person who either has a sheep farm or is training for a marathon 365 days a year. Not exaggerating.

I'm an extremely active 35yo. I adopted a 5yo malinois. She's the laziest malinois I've ever seen in my life, and I STILL succeeded in tiring her out only ONE TIME, and I had to climb 4 mountains in one day to do it. I had to carry her out of the truck. She slept like a rock for, oh, 2 hours, and was ready for a day of all-out war again.

  • thanks

  • I'm thinking about getting one can anyone tell me their behavioral traits and what i should expect

  • pretty dogs. wish i could get my malinois close to water, he's afraid of any water but the one in his drinking bowl

  • Oh wow <3 they're both gorgeous.

How did you train them to run next to the van like that? I've tried getting my girl to do that [ typical high-energy malinois, sounds similar to yours ] but I'm always worried she's gonna run too close and an accident will happen; plus she doesn't exactly get the "following" concept too well. Both of yours look like they know what they're doing, just wondering how you got them to follow the car.
