There is a reason glam is dead and thrash isn't. glam bands focused more on looks and visuals than the actual music [as you can tell by their simple writing, formulatic song structures and mediocre playing ability]

@VitalSigns1 I'm not arguing individuals, I'm arguing genre as a whole. How something sounds is subjective hence I didn't mention it in my original criticism. I only mentioned things that are objective.

Saying kerry king sounds like shit is an insult to shit, btw.

ratt and def leppard sound "great" because of production [I wouldn't really label DL as glam though, they were more nwobhm that devolved into pop] and by the numbers, safe, simple note selection.

@jostopholees I'll grant you that as a whole thrash guitarists are better, but you have to admit that there are tons of amazing glam metal guitarists. Also it seems you're limiting musical ability to technical finger skill. What makes a great guitar solo is not how hard it is to play but how good it sounds. For example a lot of Kerry King's solos sound like shit, because it's just sloppy shredding, whereas a solo by Ratt or Def Leppard sounds great.

@jostopholees Music is defined as sound that is expressed through the use of various devices. The fact that glam bands had such amazing SOUND is why I consider it to be such awesome and terrific music. As far as technical musical ability, glam guitarists could fucking shred your face off. Do you even know anything about glam metal or are you just going by the few pop single hits that were pushed onto you by the media?
