Linebacker Malcolm Smith of USC has been named Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Week in football.
Smith, a junior from Northridge, California, led the Trojan defensive charge in USCs 28-7 win against UCLA. Smith recorded a game-high 15 tackles, seven solo, including one and a half tackles for loss, and returned an interception 62 yards for a touchdown. Smith also has been named national defensive player of the week by the Walter Camp Foundation.
