  • Actually, we're both wrong. The ad aired in 1986 as a replacement for the Bill Cosby ads for New Coke, which aired in 1985. After the New Coke chaos, they needed to advertise both Coke and Coke Classic in one form, and they chose this form. So, essentially, this is an ad for Coke and Coke Classic, simultaneously.

  • sorry..it ran from 85 thru 87 and new coke came out when i was in the 6th grade..86

  • He first appeared in 83 and was a huge hit...the television show aired in 84 and ran thru 86.

  • yes, it was an ad for the new coke..the commercial aired in the summer os 84 when the new coke debuted.

  • I remember max headroom beign more e-ne-ner-getic! I'm 32 and i think i first saw M H when i was 7 or 8 yrs old. Does anyone remember the exact year he first appeared on T.V?

  • That's not an ad for New Coke, it's just an ad for regular Coke.

  • It's somwhat ironic that in Back to the Future II, in the year 2015, Marty goes into the 80's Cafe where all the waiters are like Max Headroom and he orders a Pepsi.

  • Oh My GOD! I remember the Max Heradroom titles when I was 3!

  • Is this Coke ad going to be almost the only Max Headroom that we'll see on YouTube?

There are like, four or five of them, the same old ad, and yet there was so much more of Max to see that was cooler....

Isn't anyone going to post the Cinemax Max Headroom shows, or clips from his ABC series, which was masterful and truly ahead of it's time?

I would if I could, but perhaps others out there are able - if so, please do it!!!!

  • I sooooo agree with hootyhaha. My kids could easily find him as cool today as I did when I was in high school. :o)
