  • Hi G58 . I don't know the pilot or the details of the accident. I took the vid for our news web site at the time. The official accident report is still to come out...

  • @boeing747ba because it's owned by a New Zealander and is painted in the colours of a WW2 New Zealand pilot: Wing Commander Colin Gray.

  • wtf is it in new zealand anyway

  • Lol it would have taken days for these guys to fix this spit , but in World war 2 they could of fixed it in a jiffy

  • @kiwigalahad I see what you mean, however the "soft grass" accident didn't destroy the undercarriage but only tipped it onto its nose. From memory the one is this vid was a ground loop. But regardless, it's always a shame when this kind of thing happens :/

  • @commanderzac I live in NZ and my family fly warbirds.. lol settle down, I wasnt saying anything of the sort. My older brother is rostered to fly 2012 in Wanaka.

  • @HBPencil79 Ok, You may be right. But you can see deep tracks in the grass behind and to the right though

  • @TheFunkhouser You calling New zealand noobs? Do me a favour fly over here then say it if you think your tough

  • @kiwigalahad I think you're talking of a much more recent incident that occured to this same aircraft after it was repaired from the crash showen in this vid. If I recall correctly it has been the same pilot every time this Spit crashes (three times I think?) who is, presumably, the owner because I wouldn't believe it if anyone else would allow that joker to repeatedly fly and crash this beauty!

  • That's at Ardmore airfield, just south of Auckland. It's one of the busiest airports in the southern hemisphere.

  • I live about a 30 minute drive away from this airfield, I've seen this exact aircraft flying as it has been restored again. I have to say it is such a beautiful aircraft and the sound it makes is amazing.
