Great video! I'm proud that i was born in USSR $-) One question: where from that howling sound comes from? My suggestion are:

1) From fan, that cools main generator.

2) From auxiliary generator/starter motor (ПСГ)

What do you say?

@MexaniG The howling noise comes from the auxiliary gear who drives the main generator fan, starter motor/generator, aux. generator, camshaft and motor regulator.

@MrMechaniker Thank's for your answer! In USSR were built passenger locos named TEP70 with same 5D49 diesel, but without main generator fan. Result - diesel run more quietly. By the way: if diesel runs at 1000 RPM, the fan runs at ~5620 RPM $-)

@MexaniG The main generator fan ist powered by an straigt-cut gear (spur gear). These gears are noisefully- in this time a part of a symphony...

Mal ne Maßangabe: Gewicht: 24,5 Tonnen :) In meiner Lehre (RAW) hab ich auch im Motoreinriss geschuftet. Jeder Kolben hat zwei Pleuel, ein Hauptpleuel und ein Anlenkpleuel. Die Muttern für jeden Zylinderkopf wurden mit einer hydraulischen Lösevorrichtung gelöst und der Kopf mit dem Hallenkran heruntergehoben :) .......

@Carsten4169 Dann hast du aber entweder nicht aufgepaßt oder etwas verwechselt... Es gibt Haupt- und Nebenpleuel, an jedem arbeitet je ein Kolben. Beide arbeiten auf ein gemeinsames Pleuelfußlager. Der Druckübersetzer, welcher zum Lösen und Anziehen der Kopfmuttern verwendet wird, arbeitet nach wie vor mechanisch.
