If you live in California and you haven't been to Yosemite, shame on you. I recommend this National park highly.
Yosemite's Half Dome hike is one of the best. It takes you through Happy isle, Mist falls trail, Nevada falls, up to HD, back down John Muir trail thru Vernal falls. Terrific day hike. You go thru many terrains in this hike. It's amazing. Go hike the park.
A man died Saturday after falling from Half Dome 6/13/09. "Five more rangers were flown to Half Dome to begin helping down 41 visitors from the summit. Many of the individuals were unable to descend due to shock over the incident and others struggled because of exposure to cold and wet conditions for more than two hours, Cobb said. The evacuation was completed by 8:15 p.m., but it was nearly 1:45 a.m. Sunday before all visitors returned to the trailhead."
On the day I hike HD. The sky was clear, till I hit the top. The Tstorms rolled in. It rained on top of HD and I wanted to get off asap. My hiking boots are made of Vibram sole and I still slipping from the wet granite surface. I must of slipped twice at the steepest part of the cables. Be safe. Best wishes.
