  • @sweetdixieguitar The better man, the one who slaughters villages? The one who lets rape happen? The one who betrays his own brotherhood in the tides of war? I think not, both Elias and Taylor had better morals than that.

  • @AliceNchainz011 Napoleon's French troops marching so valorously across German lands caused German people to see nationalism for once on the side of the conquered; Bismarck was also a Machiavellian politician, a Realpolitik who actually got shit done and backed off; of course the French held a grudge, it's a result! But, WWI is equally the fault of the French in the early 1800s who caused Europe to preserve the status quo of monarchs, and people were just sick of it.

  • @yabsdon If you really think that the purpose of this film is to worship and celebrate the struggles and hardships of your yankee soldiers in Vietnam, then you're mentally ill.

  • Wooh baby, first time I got a significant viewer number.... #161,000 baby!

  • @AliceNchainz011 The country was divided by our wonderful and idiotic two-party system. New Englanders hated the war.

Peace cannot be attained because all humankind is evil by birthright. We are all born with a natural tendency to give into this pride. But to say that being proud of the first country since the Greeks to be a democracy is wrong? That I will never understand.

"I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country." (Nathan Hale at the gallows)

  • @RealCreativeName lack of american nationalism? what are you talking about? Peace can not be maintained *because* of nationalism. It boggles my mind that you can not see that. Anywho...i think i'll just leave you with a quote attributed to HL Mencken..."To die for an idea; it is unquestionably noble. But how much nobler it would be if men died for ideas that were true"

  • @AliceNchainz011 (cont'd..) When I'm called to arms like so many others will be, I'll remember you and others like you, and I'll slam someone's face that much harder. Take pride in something, or you haven't lived!!

By the way: American colonists wanted to govern themselves as they had been for 160 years at that time. Salutary neglect took place, and all of a sudden a government power thrust comes in. Their rights were trampled; they were fine on their own; what of our lazy asses?

  • @AliceNchainz011 The fact remains that anti-nationalism is our topic, so here's my stance. Peace cannot be attained, ever. Just because nationalism doesn't exist, do you really think petty problems based on pride (for say family, like in African clans) will ever be settled?

Great that you watch the news, btw. My dad has stories from combat. Somalia, 82nd Airborne. And he signed up out of pride for his country. I'm sure you're proud of this, debating, so take up arms with words in politics.

  • @AliceNchainz011 Well someone had to die for it. I say soldiers did (and still do); some say Jesus did; some will say some crazy monk who lived in a Chinese mountain gained spiritual enlightenment and brought hope for mankind. I know the US hasn't been invaded since the War of 1812, and because of the LACK OF AMERICAN NATIONALISM, we essentially lost--not officially, but had there been harsher terms from Britain, there was no fighting it. It all depends on what side you take.

  • @RealCreativeName And the colonists actually enjoyed being a part of the British Empire until Parliament decided that they had to pay for their own defense. Sort of the same thing as today...people want their government programs but don't want to pay the taxes that fund them.

  • @RealCreativeName Patriotism breeds a "my country, right or wrong" mentality, as well as groupthink. The U.S. military takes credit for "freedom" but when one believes that, then it justifies *every single* military intervention it is involved in. War for war's sake. Freedom to think the way you want isn't owned by anyone else except the individual. And remember...the U.S. hasn't been invaded since the War of 1812.
