Health is a major concern in under developed countries, but it gets worse if such countries are hit by a national disaster. In the recent years Haiti and Pakistan are such examples where natural disasters like earthquake and floods caused more damage not only because of the poor infrastructure of these countries but they also lacked the basic health necessities which became the cause of hundreds of casualties.
This was also the topic of Health Conference held at Washington's thinktank United States Institute of Peace, where the health situation of fragile countries like Afghanistan and Pakistan were discussed.
George Town University's professor Anne Peterson believed that if the same earthquake which hit Pakistan, would have happened in San Fransisco, there would be much less health trauma from it.
Senior health director of International Rescue Committee, Emmnuel d'Harcourt said it's a mistake to think that these problems appear out of nowhere because often they existed at some level and they're made worst by the natural disaster.
