  • Hi, how are you? I saw 2 or 3 peter with 1693 cat engine listed on truckpaper but they were all 119 inches hood! Any idea why your is an extended hood? Remember the vin of your truck?

  • @FreemanTrucking As far as I know they only put the 1693 in the extended hood. That was the reason Peterbilt created the extended hood was to accomodate the 1693 engine because it was so long. The VIN is 42289P. There were was so much demand for the look of the extended hood look Peterbilt keep as an option for detroit and cummins powered trucks but it originally was designed for the 1693.

  • hey does that truck got jake brakes on it

  • @bluejay148 No jake brakes on the 1693. Cat used a hydraulic engine brake called a brakesaver. It was a very heavy add on but was a very effective engine brake. This truck does not have the brakesaver option.

  • I wonder if it has center point steering so you can steer without power assist? I will have to check on the cams maybe one for int and one for exh not sure. But I remember the large rear gear case 10-4!

  • @oevoz No center point steering. Armstrong!!! It has two overhead camshafts, one for intake and one for exhaust. It will make a good driver out of you, you will learn to make it in one shot. It will wear you after one try. No back and forth with this steering wheel.

  • is that the whine of a 13 speed i hear?

  • your explanation of Peterbilt's 127 inch hood is incorrect. The 1693 always did fit fine in the short hood 359's. It was the Cummins KT's that needed the longer hood, because they had over 250 more cubic inches than the 1693. The only special feature Pete did for the Cats, was put a removable plate on the firewall, so a mechanic could work on the rear of the engine, from inside the cab, prior to head removal.

  • No power steering, and they still had to back trailers loaded up into tight spots. Gob bless the drivers of that day - they were true road gladiators.

  • There is nothing like the sound of a 1600 series engine starting on a cold day.Plus,If you don"t

have power steering you learn to turn while your moving. And,if the engine revs to 2500,the governoer would cut off the fuel.Bottom line, great video.Keep kicking the cat!
