Kibaki appoints Mathew Iteere as the Police Commissioner

A change of guard at vigilance house this afternoon brought the curtain down on six years of major general Mohammed Husein Alis reign. Mathew Iteere who has been serving as the GSU commandant now moves to the police headquarters as the new commissioner of police.

Reading through the comments, I sense that some think that helped the somalis, and that he's more of a somalian than a kenyan. The reality is that Kikuyus/Luo/Kamba are more favourable to see one of theirs running important instituition of government even if his ultimate goal is to wipe them. We all know politicians stand in the way of bureaucrats therefore Major Ali earns my respect for standing up to all the political nonsense that tore up the police force. Yes we can complain of police killing civilians and a rise in crime lakini is it only in Major Ali's watch that this has happened ?

Also let us not forget Major Ali is a military man. Military men have their ways of running things. The take no prisoner approach should not have come as a surprise.

Ali's time is way past due. He destroyed kenya with Kivuitu during his long tenure among others. He will be remembered for killing the Luos of nyanza and the kalenjins of Mau. He also allowed illegal activity involving Somalis in Eastleigh Nairobi. To hell with this guy!
