Lizzy's First Quail - Intro to birds

When raising a young hunting dog it is important to have a positive first introduction to birds. You can't raise a good bird dog without the use of live birds in your training program. I like to use quail or pigeons in the early stages of training. This quail has a few flight feathers missing so it can't get too far from the brittany puppy. Lizzy is 9 weeks old in this video and was very interested in chasing, catching and carrying the bird in her mouth. She carried it from the barn about 300 feet to the house and I pet her down real good before taking the bird from her.
