Minor League Ump Has Rough Night - 08.10.10

With Seattle Mariner Top Prospect Nick Franklin at the plate, Minor League Umpire Brett Houseman has a rough night at Home Plate as he's hit in the throat by a ball & then later on in the face mask. He was alright. Happened during a Clinton LumberKings / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers game at Alliant Energy Field in Clinton, Iowa on 08.10.10. The LumberKings lost 6-5.

That catcher sucks and I would bet he didn't get any close calls that night. As a catcher, you want good rapport with the ump. He needs to get down and block that ball in the dirt, not olé it. And, when an ump gets hit in the face, the unwritten rule is you go out to talk to the pitcher to give him time to recover while saving face and not holding up the game. All this catcher does is ask for a new ball. I hope his manager reamed him out.
