  • I had the privilege of playing racquetball with Col. Halverson when he was base commander at Templehof in the 1970's. He was a fine gentleman, but also a fierce competitor, and I left the court several times with welts on my backside. I didn't know he was the "Candy Bomber" until after he retired from the Air Force. I am pleased to see that he is still doing well.

  • My father was stationed in Berlin 1969-1973. He always felt honored at COL Halvorsen was Commander at Tempelhof during his duty time there.

I also knew his daughter Marilyn when she and I were at Berlin American High School.

Berliners tend to remember the Candy Bomber with fond recollection. A genuine piece of living history.
