@VandMco In my series of videos, I make a marble from the toughest Brazilian agate. Search for "How to make an agate stone marble" Jared and I have been making marbles for over two years now. We have made marbles out of agate, jasper, flint, chert, petrified wood and bone, limestone, granite, marble, chalcedony, jade, onyx, calcite, and just plain old common rocks and pebbles.

Check out the hand made marble on this site. etsy.com/shop/MarbleGems This is a good example of what can be made using this technique.

PLEASE use a mask !!!

@renaissanceman2000 Thank you for your advice.

I finally found the marble in the garage that hit me in the head.

Yes, I prefer using agate and jasper. For the sake of a video it would have taken longer to grind, so I used a softer material that didn't take so long to make a marble. Check out pictures of the marbles that my brother and I make on our facebook page. search for marblegems, or see the link in the video description.

grinding on a lapidary saw and grinder isn't as dangerous as it might look. My fingers often touch the wheel while grinding. The most harm it has ever done is grind a little bit of fingernail off, which usually isn't much ( like a fingernail clipper) unless I do it a lot. I have learned to grind without touching my fingernails on the grinder. Only once did I grind enough to make it bleed just a little bit.
What where did you buy your tools and what was it called? I'm trying to buy one to cut my geodes.

My grinder is made by Lortone. I found it in the classifieds, but you can find lapidary grinders and saws on ebay or all over the internet. The best ones and for the best price are made by a small rock shop here in Utah, called "simple elegance". Their saw and grinder cabinets are made from stainless. Search for this in google maps: Simple Elegance Rock Shop, Mountain Way, Orem, Utah.

I have to say it is a very original way. Have you tried to use a drip bottle while grinding the marble in the block, it could help reduce the dust and also speed up the grinding.

I have tried to use water while grinding in the block. The problem is that the water makes the marble too slippery and won't catch on the rubber wheel. I have started using a vacuum to keep the dust down, and wear a mask to keep the dust out of my lungs. Very important to wear a face mask. Last year I coughed all summer because of the dust from making marbles. I don't have that problem any more since I started wearing a mask.
