Why is so much of culture today "making fun" of the 70s and 80s? Screw the culture today. The 80s had better music, a better President, and a better economy.
The Xanadu movie was mucho better than anything anyone could put about it on stage today. And what's with the male muses and the gay-looking leading man?
That mealy-mouthed actress could never be ONJ. 80s rule!!

The soundtrack to the movie was popular because the MOVIE WAS POPULAR.
AND it was beautiful. And innovative in special effects history.
