The Equality Ride is a bus journey that brings emerging young leaders to
religious colleges and universities that have explicit discriminatory
policies targeting LGBTQ students.
At each stop, riders will attempt to engage in dialogue with community
members, students, and administration through informal conversation and
educational programming, building on existing activist networks in schools
and communities so that work to end discrimination is sustained long after
the equality ride bus pulls out of town.
Riders will be trained in social justice organizing and activism, the
intersectionality of multiple forms of oppression, nonviolent direct
action, and examining the relationship between faith and concepts of
gender and sexuality.
The ride cannot be a success without an outstanding and diverse group of
young riders, who can speak to the multiplicity of experiences within the
queer community. A rider is 18-28 years-old, may live anywhere in the
world, come from any ethnic background, claim any gender identity or
sexual orientation, and may or may not be a person of faith.
