This is a short video explaining some of the fingering I use for playing Boogie Woogie left hand riffs.

As you will see in the clip, I use an unusual 'transitional' finger method of moving about through some of the key changes.

I don't want to call this either a lesson or "instructional video" as I myself am not sure my it's the right way to play things.

To illustrate I have used some brief extracts from the 'Bumble Boogie', 'Swanee River' and some brief improvisations.

If anyone else plays this way please let me know - maybe we could form a club {lol}

  • What type of keyboard do you use?

  • Casio AP-60. I've had it for about 3 years and like it very much as it certainly takes a bit of a 'Boogie Beating' in it's stride...although my next Digital Piano is likely to be a Yamaha with the GH3 weighted Hammer Action.

  • top class man...great playing and sharing your tricks is just too kind.

    will never get to your standard..I can play all other styles except BW but I've already learned so much from you..many many thanks for your genrousity..you're a good one

  • Rubbish. This an excellent instructional video as anyone with a brain can see. And as for speed- are you saying that Jools Holland doesn't play real boogie woogie? Please post your own instructional video so we can compare the two. I thoroughly enjoyed this.

  • Interesting to see and hear how others approach fingering.

    IMHO - just do what works for you. Then again, I'm self taught so who am I to say how it should be done. Just as long as you're having fun!
