They didn't use this opening for VERY long after Brenda came back. She came back in November 1983, and they updated the credtis in January 1984. And they DID use that Juliana McCarthy/Brenda Dickson sketch at the mid-show bumper. The sketch ws orginally done around 1978.

The end credits for Y&R from the start of 1980 to the spring of 1981 had Nikki, Cassey (Nikki's sister), April Stevens (Paul's girlfriend at the time) and Vanessa Printess.
In the summer of 1981 they changed the end credits with those characters (Nikki, Cassey, Vanessa, April) and replaced them with Kay Chancellor, Lance Printess, Lori Brooks, Leasley Brooks, Lucas Printess and Douglas.

I remember months after Brenda Dickson returned as Jill, they continued to use the opening shot with Deborah Adair & Jerry Douglas. Brenda Dickson & Julianna McCarthy had a mid-bumper sketch card during this time.

Usually shows with cast montage still use an image of previous actor in the openings even when they have been recast. I got part of the mid-bumper sketch you referenced.
