Altered States and Ecstasy part 1

For decades the new age movement has focused on the transcendence ("up-and-out") and disregard of the body. I believe that the body plays a key role in connecting with our human wholeness and experiencing ecstasy in the here and now.

What is the role of the body in altered states?
Instead of transcending, can we learn or re-member what Plotkin and Thomas Berry called "inscending"?
