Niagara business owner John Fulton started Surfing Santa in 1985 as a publicity stunt to promote his Windsurfing school. The stunt went worldwide on his first try and has been featured in various media outlets such as newspapers, magazines and television stations including CNN.
John's surfing school has long since closed but the tradition has continued for twenty five years as a way to bring attention to the plight of the homeless worldwide. Surfing Santas call to the world: Take some of your stuff, toys, food, clothes, blankets, cash, etc, etc, etc and find a shelter, a homeless person, family, charity and make a donation. Shelters and food banks have a greater need than ever in these tough economic times.
