Paradise Gray (One HOOD) speaks at The University Of Pittsburgh "Speak-Out at Pitt on G-20 Rights Violations".
Oakland Unites for First Amendment Rights is the name of the peaceful rally scheduled for this evening, Thursday Oct. 1 at 5:30pm. The ACLU has obtained the use of the William Pitt Student Union patio and lawn, near the corner of Forbes and Bigelow in Oakland. The speak out about what happened during the occupation of Pitts campus during the G-20, is sponsored by University of Pittsburgh students, the Black Action Society at Pitt, Pitt ACLU, the Thomas Merton Center Antiwar Committee, One HOOD, Code Pink Pittsburgh and Mothers Against Conviction Of The Innocent (M.A.C.O.T.I).
People who were unfairly arrested, detained, or brutalized will be given resources such as information on counseling, legal help, and a list of local community organizations that have been active around peace, justice and civil liberties. The ACLU of PA will be seeking information and statements from students and community members who witnessed what happened on Thursday and Friday nights, and will announce plans of action. As students and community members stand in solidarity for first amendment rights, they will be asked by campus leaders to sign a petition calling for reconciliation led by the University of Pittsburgh and the City of Pittsburgh. Students, parents, community activists and residents are expected to participate.
On point as always
