You don't want solder peaks, don't finish a joint by lifting the iron straight up. Slide the tip off horizontally. Most of the solder will stay on the tip. Work quickly, the longer the joint is hot, the more the molten solder/flux will loose surface tension. Always use 63/37 solder because it has the fastest transition to solid.
