Just an update, wrote a quick program to calculate the counts per minute and mR/H readings. Averages the reading over 10 seconds.

  • hey jkenny; do you think an illiterate person can built something like yours, if he has the full blueprints? and how much $ costs around?

  • @pasham123 If you have some soldering skill, you could buy the board, programmer, and parts and build one yourself, but it is not very cost effective. This project cost me about $140, not including the programmer. I would recommend it for the learning experience, otherwise, depending on your needs, you could get an old civil defense meter for pretty cheap, or a Geiger counter off someplace like eBay. Another disclaimer: the Geiger tube used in this project is no longer for sale/available.

  • hi, very good digital geiger counter! This uC is AVR or PIC?

  • I use an AVR ATtiny88 in the final version, this earlier version used both an ATtiny13 for the boost converter, and the PolyBot board, which is based on an ATmega644P.

Where can you get the parts/plans from?

  • Yes because 30mR/h is very high for 456 C/m. With thorite(Th): 1.200.000C/m is 5/7mR/h with Alpha/Beta/Gamma/X ray emit...

  • How are you converting CPM to mR/H. I think that conversion is different depending on what type of radiation youre measuring.
