Our next door neighbor, in Norwalk, Ca., had a white 1960 Impala like this one (the 3 tail light configuration told you it was an Impala ~ 2 tail lights was a Bel Air and 1 tail light (on each side) was the Biscane. The 348 (known as a "W" head motor) was originally designed as a Chevy truck engine and from that block the famed 409 Chevy was born ~ dual quads, 425 factory rated H.P. By the beginning of my freshman year (Fall 1961) it was one of strongest street cars around.

I grew up in Norwalk, California ~ my high school was in the neighboring community of Santa Fe Springs. Just a few miles N.E. of my school was Whittier Blvd. (in Whittier, Ca.) and on the weekends we cruised Bobs' Big Boy restaurant on Whittier Blvd. I can still remember driving thru the parking lot, over and over and over ~ playing "I Get Around" on my AM radio by the Beach Boys. Some of the best days of my life.

My first car was a 1957 Chevy, bought it during the summer between my junior and senior year (1964) at Santa Fe High School in Santa Fe Springs, California. My dad helped with the purchase ~ had the car until I was drafted (Vietnam) in early 1969. So many stories; crusing, double-dates, triple dates and even (once) a quad-date (8 of us) in my '57! When I got back from the war I bought a brand new 1970 Plymouth Roadrunner ~ orange w/black vinyl top & pistol grip 4-speed.
