After winning a five-way race in the New Mexico primary for Governor, Susana Martinez, a tough-on-crime District Attorney is close to doing it again.
What is it about Susana that is making New Mexicans lean her way? One reason is that as District Attorney, Susana was not involved in partisan politics, but concentrated on the work of the people by protecting our children and families -- fighting relentlessly for victims and justice. She personally tried some of the toughest cases, including child abuse and child homicide. In fact, Katie's Law is named after Katie Sepich, a 22-year old college student whose killer Susana prosecuted and convicted. The law now requires law enforcement to take DNA for most violent felony arrests and include the samples in a database to help bring criminals to justice.
Protecting our families is just one of her strengths. We sat down with Susana and listened to her take on the many issues facing women voters in New Mexico like education, corruption and immigration.
