The Daily Hampshire Gazette estimates that 500 people rallied on Main Street in Northampton, MA on November 15, "lending their voices to a chorus around the country protesting the passage of Proposition 8, a voter-approved initiative to repeal the judicial decision legalizing gay marriage in California."
The rally was organized by Kathryn L. Martini of Greenfield. Speakers included Lorelei Erisis, Stacy Konkiel, Jendi Reiter, Jack Hornor and others. Music was provided by The Raging Grannies and OffBeat.
Here is a statement from the protest organizers:
"Join the Impact is a group that is organizing a nationwide protest against Proposition 8, the measure which banned gay marriage in California last Tuesday.
"People will be gathering in cities across the country this Saturday, November 15th at 1:30 (EST) to protest the passage of this discriminatory proposition.
"Join us for a protest in Northampton at City Hall to show your opposition to Prop 8. This is not just a California issue! This is an issue of equality for all Americans!
