Judy Collins sings the traditional English song which is thought to date back to the 1600s. In modern times, "The Water Is Wide" was made popular by Pete Seeger. It was recorded by John Gorka on the Appleseed Records' Pete Seeger tribute album. This video clip is the only commercially available recording of Judy Collins performing the song. It is taken from a 2005 concert taping, later released on DVD.

  • Just amazing wow what a voice and beautiful job on the song. Thanks for posting!

  • My heart is pierced with a sadness that is hard to describe listening to this - maybe its the minor notes but such a sad beautiful song sung so well.

  • James Taylor and PP+M also did wonderful versions of this classic old English song. Judy, you are magic in my life. Read her new autobio "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes"

  • actually 45 years and more on from her heyday.

  • In singing, you've either got it or you haven't and Judy Collins has always had it. 35 years on from her heyday, her voice is still clear as crystal.

  • SO beautiful. I have never seen her - and this is the first time I hear her for years. Thank you for uploading :-))

  • too much nostalgia on youtube isn't healthy maybe but this old guy has a tear in his eye. love you, judy, you are a musical angel

  • Magnificent

  • I never understood why Pat Conroy named his novel "The Water Is Wide". Now it makes perfect sense. What an incredible song. And Judy is the cherry (no pun intended) on top....

  • I've only seen her in concert once, and late in her and my life, but it was amazing. I saw her sing "My father always promised us

That we would live in France " in Ohio. No dry eyes.
