Teresa and I traveled to Glacier National Park in September 2010, a 2,000 mile drive. On the way, we stopped for a short visit at Theodore Roosevelt NP in WC North Dakota. We thought these badlands were far more spectacular than were the SD Badlands we saw several years ago with the kids. GNP was simply amazing, too much for pictures or videos to capture. Though Going to the Sun Road is a fantastic drive (the only road through the GNP), we're convinced that one must take several day hikes to take it in. Hiking in GNP is a challenge with distances (7 to 13 mile daily hikes) and terrain, seemingly up or down with steep drop offs. Weather changes by the moment, sunny quickly changes to clouds, rain, sleet, snow then sun again. Each turn in the trail is a picture worth taking, especially with the constantly changing sky. Wild animals are abundant, especially big horn sheep and mountain goats. Yes, we encountered grizzly bears (mother and cubs about 200 feet away) on our first day of hiking. Fortunately it was a wide-open area and they were quite content on digging for the small rodents to bulk up for winter. Teresa was not pleased with me stopping and taking a couple quick pictures, especially as I was trying to eat some pretzels (I was hungry too). The zip line was outside GNP at a ski resort near the town of Whitefish. That was a blast! We camped for 4 nights, yes it was chilly, then spoiled ourselves with the GNP's lodges for 3 nights. Many Glacier Lodge is old and charming, the views from our balcony were incredible. You will see the sunrise, moose and rainbow pictures. Our last day was spent going to Waterton (GNP in Canada) to see the famous Prince of Wales Hotel and town surrounded by mountains. The day was mostly miserable and the prices were very high. We spent time looking for hiking boots for Teresa, she had some blister issues with her old ones and walking the shops, fun to see the English flair. We did take in one pretty, short hike (Red Gorge) before heading back to the USA and the long trip home. Thanks for viewing or video, obviously most of the pictures have more of a story!
