The weird, fascinating atmosphere of this movie shows that George Lucas had something special as a young director than lost his touch when Star Wars episodes 1-3 came around. I'm not sure why.

Anyone realize that THX 1138 is star wars version of earth there was a novel meant to come out to explain that people from this version of earth ended up in the star wars galaxy and populated it with humans hence humans are not native to the star wars galaxy.

@sequence130 Because they are monitoring all the time, everyone, to make sure they are taking there daily drugs and for other common offenses. Once THX screws up a bit here then they start to monitor him more closely and that's how is gets found out.

@Destroer666 ...more unnecessary CGI added into the movie just like in the Original Star Wars Trilogy...it looks fake and totally out of place...

I wonder why the workers need to be told what to do in a job they presumably have done for years, perhaps here the film is saying even peoples inner voice that guides them through tasks has been replaced by the state?

Not sure why? You're being sarcastic right?
Money. He was already incredibly rich before he started production on Episodes 1-3, but he knew he could make movies which would make a new generation of kids buy action figures and merchandise for billions.

"THX...YOU ARE ENTERING A CRITICAL PHASE!!!!" But we'll still mindlock yah and feed yah to the dogs HA HA!!

They do this scene so, so right. The radiation rods are creepy, the magnum-cell chatter is so surprisingly tense, the corporate chatter wonderfully detached...
It's really, really, eery.

@James25H It's about an underground society in the near future (the surface is presumed to be a wasteland) ruled by order. People are dehumanized and aren't allowed to have a sense of identity. They're allowed to watch holographic porn but aren't allowed to form natural loving relationships with each other because, since individuality is outlawed, everyone is an expendable cog in the machinery of society. In George Lucas's words, "society itself is the prison."

At last here's a technology that has useful real world applications. Wouldn't it be just fantastic to mindlock folks just at point when you know they're going to piss you off. And you can also get some lefts and rights in retaliation free as a bonus.
did this film get a rejuvenation treatment like star wars be cause it looks like it when that rod goes through c3po's head
