For those who don't know what rm -rf /* means:

Got really pissed by a mistake I made. I deleted /var/cache and apt couldn't update. It is easy to fix but I couldn't be bothered. After that, I got bored so I just deleted the whole filesystem. The result is good.

    They aren't actually files and are in memory. Lots of those are files that actually really virtual files that point to the system that is currently running anyway.

    For instance, there is a 'file' in /dev/ that points to your audio device. You can't really delete that ;-)
