This poignant short film captures one mans odyssey which comes to an end through his own life-altering decision.
Forgiven is set in contemporary rural Ireland and revolves around the character Simon, a desperate middle-aged man who takes refuge in a desolate church. On this stormy night, he pleads for repentance with the divine and his mentor and friend Father Barry. He is forced to come to terms with his emotional burden. The film concludes on an ambiguous tone raising numerous questions regarding the morality of Simons history and previous actions.
The film was shot in Blackrock, Dundalk, Co. Louth by film students from Dundalk Institute of Technology. The film combines quaint yet beautiful surroundings with subtle cinematography. This is the debutant film for Mature Student John Hoey (aged 55). Hoeys storytelling style is simply but so effective. He gets a memorable performance from Patrick Molloy and screen novice Matthew Murphy, a local Dundalk stage actor. Forgiven epitomizes everything great about low-budget film in Ireland
Can't wat to see this. I've seen Pat Molloy in a few productions- really great Dublin actor!
