How come so many games for iphone/ipod has poor sfx sound quality? Take this game for example or hero of sparta. Sound effects like units attacking is all crackling and missing the higher frequencies. Music quality is usually clear and crisp. Is it because of some limitations in the hardware maybe?
@Thezzephyr Nope, it's all about the file size. Developers want to get below the '3G' size cutoff so people can buy their game without needing Wifi to download it. Compressing textures and using low bit-rate audio are two of the easiest ways to reduce the file size without either coding their game more efficiently or using less in game assets (e.g., levels, characters, UI elements)
Framerate does look pretty horrible. Turning players into towers might be elegant, but it is also a bit weird, seeing that orcs now pass by their enemies instead of attacking them. What are the orcs going for, Frodo?
@nicolasmarinus That's really the biggest hole in the concept - they just march by doing damage to your 'health', but it doesn't really make a lot of sense :)
Why was my earlier comment flagged as spam? All I did was say "You shall not pass!" That being one of Gandolf's most famous lines and this being a review for a Lord of the Rings Tower Defense game I thought it would really fit.
@swisssk8er1 I wonder about the spam filter on YouTube sometimes =\ I saw your comment and had no idea why it was flagged - it's possible someone reported it, but I can't see why.
