Glacial lagoon, June 2009
The lagoon only appeared in 1934 (due to global warming). Quite unbelievably it is 200 meters deep, and is separated from the ocean by only a short distance (which you can easily walk).
The icebergs from the huge glaciar behind drain into the ocean. Around the lake, a special kind of agressive seagulls called skuas lay their nests, so you have to take some care. Frequently the ice glows with a bluish haze.
