Media monopolies are the biggest contributers to presidential candidates and they also profit the most from the election cycles. So they give with the left hand and take with the right and own all the candidates in between. Advertising is a tax levied on the population already, so why not have this corp. tax pay for publicly funded elections?

We the people is individuals and their rights. Corporations aren't included, because they are government creations, chartered by states with the priveliege of limted liability. I believe in private prop. 7 competitive makts, & I see how corporations destroy both. I like Louis Brandeis philosophy.

Yeah, I was kind of hoping for more than The People is We The People.
Are 'The People', simply those who oppose Large Businesses?

The people are "we the people" its how the US constitution starts and has now been amended to include former slaves and women and those who are 18yrs. old. But commerical speech (the right to pander) is not the same as free speech (the right to protest). In the US commercial interests have monopolized almost all the avenues of communication.

I love the US constitution, esp. free speech. We don't have it in Aus and it's a bad thing when those in power can control what those who don't can say in criticizm.
I'm always a little suspicious of euphemisms like 'the people' though.
Who are The People?

i love it.
The money system is a system of logic and it dictates its own rules. If you believe in a two class system of have and have-nots, then the "free market" is for you. If you believe in a "meritocracy" where talent is rewarded and social mobility is achievable then you are a progressive and you understand the value of government and taxes.

We in the U.S. pay the lowest taxes per capita of most developed nations, but our middle class pays the highest taxes because of the way the tax load has been distributed. To hog tie government and letting corporations run the world is social suicide. Just hand over your the world to nepotism, because that is a sure way to a caste system. It is always amazing how every generation grows up economicly ignorant and has to learn the same old money lessons again and again by crisis.

Ouch, excessive taxation is wrong. A better alternative would be to knock out 90% of gov't bureaucracy to leave you with 90% of your income to enjoy in a country that followed constitution by staying out of other countries affairs.
Taxation is yet another bandaid to fix a problem that roots with several big gov't "fixes" that failed before. There is NO place for gov't intervention in the media.

there is no such thing as "free speech" without government protection. There is no such thing as a healthy middle-class without government protection. Free-markets lead to monopoly and monopoly leads to fascism. Fascism looks like capitalism because it places profits over people, but fascism goes further and places politics over profits. Dogma fails in its simplicity. The no tax, little government sounds good but is horribly flawed. The middle class needs a progressive tax code to exist.
