  • what a powerfull concerto man. the worlds it travels me in!

used to listen to it along with ritual of spring!

    Fucking power combo!

  • It is beautfuly played by Heifetz. Just discovered in wikipedia that the concerto was premiered in 1935 in Madrid with the French violinist Robert Soetens . And that "Prokofiev gave Soetens a year's exclusive right to perform the work"

  • @chessmeister good comment. I had not heard that one about him. I did hear that when he gave his first performance in the USA (Carnegie Hall?) a famous violinist said at half time " Its very hot in here isnt it?" and the famous pianist sitting beside said " Only for violinsts....."

  • Is it sped up because of the recording quallty at the time?

  • Heifetz's technique is AMAZING, but I think that he should have slowed down the slow parts and then we could hear it better. This concerto is beautiful. I love how old orchestras sound on the record.

  • Heifetz is pretty much untouchable in almost every way. They said he was perfect at age 20... then he kept getting better and better.

  • Wow, what a fast tempo! It definitely gives it a different feel from the Stern/Ormandy recording.

  • this is THE performance when Prokofiev could play violin himself. Heifetz THE greatest...not to forget Koussevitzky ! I have other recordings with them both. Brahms Concerto and Double but not this pure genial one! THAX a lot ! Could you forward the label recorded it, please? Is it RCA as usual ? Is to be tranfered to cd ? Many Thanx in advance

  • we did this in a concert a couple of days ago its such an interesting piece!
