I like the machine very much, except for the foot pedal. I swapped out the Miller foot pedal for a better one made by SSC Controls.

  • You said you had a problem with high freq interference. How far away was your cable/modem from your weld area? thanks

  • @monsterenergy27 It's about 30 to 40 feet away.

  • Nice setup!

  • @xaaps2010 Thanks! It was fun painting the walls black - makes the garage more interesting.

  • Your tungsten is extended way too far. A good rule off thumb is to only extend half the diameter as you tig cup.

  • @zuverib Thanks for the comment. I still have a lot to learn about welding. I was welding an inside corner, and couldn't see the tip of my tungsten, so I extended it. I am using a gas lens collet body that is supposed to allow me to extend my tungsten farther if necessary.

  • thanks for the tip on the SSC pedal!

  • Thank you for this video, I love REAL consumer reviews about a product i'm looking into buying. Thank you.

  • Very good info on the machine and the foot control. I bought one from SSC also after watching your video as I too hated the one from Miller. I love this 165, its really great for tigging up some hot rod chassis parts whilst building a hot rod. Thanks for taking the time to make this. It helped me out!

  • Thank you for the insight about the pedal, I bought the SSC pedal as you suggested, very good advice from you and nice folks at SSC to deal with.

  • @reflectionlabs The tungsten can be extended as far as you need provided that the gas shielding covers the arc sufficiently. More gas flow or a larger cup can be used to get the tungsten out as far as 1 inch past the cup. ( I usually run my tungsten sticking out the same as you do at 15 cfh gas flow)
