A quick demo of the Lenz's solution of keeping your loco running over dirty track, dead frogs etc by installing a USP Power 1 module that has to be connected to a Lenz Gold decoder. The video shows a 12 wheel all wheel pick up desel running over a 12 inch piece of tape. not only does the Gold/USP combination keep the power p to the motor, it allows commands to "get through" to the Gold as shown when I changed direction of the loco, while on the tape.

  • Tape is insulator, wheels/track are the plates, forming a Capacitor

A capacitor is an open circuit to the "power" (current) of the DCC voltage the signal part (pulses) representing the data of the DCC packet, telling the decoder what to do, get through to the Gold decoder, due to the Gold decoder’s design.

Loco on tape. USP powering loco. Direction change makes the corresponding change in the DCC packet info. The pulses get through to the decoder. Decoder reverses the motor

  • If the loco is running on the stay alive, how is it getting the signal to change directions? While on the tape or whatever that is.

  • How on earth does it receive dcc signals in order to reverse when travelling over the insullation? Magic!

  • WOW! that really makes a huge difference. Is 30 cm the maximum distance it will travel? Or can it go further?
