Famous Studios Popeye the Sailor Cartoon. This is among the rarest of all the Popeye theatricals. This is among Jim Tyer's last animation efforts before leaving to work at the Terrytoons studio. This particular cartoon has not aired on TV in 6 years. Previous airings on TV are edited to remove island native stereotype, Friday. Popeye and Olive are shipwrecked and arrive at Robinson Crusoe Bluto's island, where the lovelorn Crusoe has his sights on Olive, but must find a way t get rid of Popeye if he is to have her all to himself. Enjoy this rare piece of animation history. This is the unedited version.

  • Hmm Friday I believe was supposed to be a comical, if not stereotypical, version of Rochester (Eddie Anderson) from the Jack Benny show.

  • @Cattaneo1590 That is absolutely correct

  • @TheRealThreeP If you had that for dinner with your girlfriend and you were going to say those things, youd been in trouble

  • @kayfowler1 What interesting is both Popeye and Herman were stars for Paramount Studios in some of the Herman and Casper cartoons they show the gates of Paramount Studios. 2012 marks the 100th anniversity of the founding and opening of Paramount Studios. I hope that Paramount comes out with a DVD With all of the Animated stars of Paramount including Betty Boop,Popeye, Superman,Herman & Katnip,Casper and many of the other animated Paramount Stars.

  • @bigg34691 -you can also see another version of herman in the paramount screen song-gobs of fun

  • @kayfowler1 Thanks!

  • great picture.better than the others uploaded

  • @bigg34691 -one is popeye ala mode.the other is wotta knight

  • Robinson-"Your eyes are like limp pools of..."

    Olive-"Clam chowdah!"

    Robinson-"Your lips are soft as..."

    Olive-"Livawusht!"

  • How come no matter how many times Popeye is ship-wrecked (some sailor!! ), he never uses his spinach (which he is carrying on him) to save himself??? lol lol

  • @s275ironman Wasn't there another Popeye cartoon that came out in where Popeye was stuck on a island with a group of hungry cannibals including a small cannibal who tries in vain to "eat" Popeye throughtout the whole cartoon. I also remember the same small cannibal in the cartoon "Wotta Knight" where he was a "gong" or "ringside bell" during a jousting tournament..

  • @ 0:36 to 0:39 isn't that Herman from "Herman and Katnip" one of the Famous Studios/Harvey Animation stars of Paramount?
