Pirates of Penzance - Fall 2011

Currently in it's 26th year, the theatre department at Valley Christian High School is recognized for its high caliber theatrical productions, stellar acting training, and state of the art facilities. There are 7 classes currently offered for in theatre; Theatre I, Musical Theatre, Acting for Film, Honors Theatre (Directing), Technical Theatre I, Technical Theatre II, and Honors Technical Theatre (Design). The Theatre department produces 3-4 full-length plays annually including a fall drama, a Spring Musical, and a student directed play in the late spring. In addition, upper level students have the opportunity to produce short one act plays as part of a lunchtime series of plays called Brown Bags. One aspect that sets V.C. Theatre apart from many high school programs is the unwavering support of the schools administration. VCHS has declared that high level arts training is one of the core values upon which it has built its educational philosophy. This can be evidenced through the creation of the Conservatory of the Arts, the four-year training program mentioned above. The administration of the school has equipped the theatre program with a highly trained faculty and staff, a wonderful performance venue, and the artistic freedom to create world-class theatre in a high school environment.

However, V.C. Theatre is more than just a high school program. Theatre at Valley Christian schools spans the grade levels starting at the elementary with regular afterschool drama classes, pullout programs, and two full productions each year. The Jr. High Theatre department continues the student training with 2 levels of theatre classes and 2-3 productions each year that include a full length musical and fall drama. In addition, every summer nearly 100 students from the greater San Jose area (including many students from other schools) take part in Summer Theatre at VCS, a 5-week summer program that offers daily theatre training to students ages 8-18 and culminates in a full length musical production.
