This was a test of a rocket project which flew in the Nevada desert on three P impulse motors, each motor exceeding 20,500 newton seconds. An Estes D12 has 20 newton seconds. Ignition was thermite and the test was a loud success.

  • terrible engine didnt make a single mach diomond

  • It's a motor, no moving parts, and mach diamonds are often an indication of design problems. Not always, but at times diamonds are a bad sign.

  • awsome except for the fact that it wasnt in a rocket but damn......... even on the ground good camera angle 5 stars m8

  • Mach diamonds have more to do with nozzle geometry, and speed related to that geometry as it rebounds......... Engines have moving parts, even if only one, motors do not, much like electric motors which only rotate based on magnetic curent. I have both rocket engines and motors. I like the engines, I use real tools to assemble them. I never interchange to keep everything straight.,,,,but some folks like to interchange.....like tissue and Kleenex.

  • Was that a Bates motor? Sure came up to pressure quickly. No hesitation, just instant on. Cu thermite initiator?

  • Bates and Cu termite.

  • @panzuman so you can make somthing better? don''t think so. you don't wnt mach dimonds on ROCKET MOTORS

  • Was this just a scaled down test motor of 25,000NS? That would only put this motor in the lower range of "O" (20,480.01-40,960) , not "P". Do you know the actual NS of the motors that were used in the launch at Balls?

  • WOW nice zoom i thought you watching this from google earth LOL

  • WOWZERZ that thing is big.... Those pretty expensive? How much does it weigh? How much thrust in pounds? :-D What are those used for? Thanks in advance...

  • Lets get 2 of those for my truck!!

  • @noxnflame maybe they were trying to cause the pole shift? (yes I am joking sarcastically) ;-)

  • what no hotdogs and smores?

  • SO many smartass wannabe comments on here. It's depressing!

  • Um... i think the engine is pointed the wrong way. You see, rockets go up not down.

  • Um it's upside down u should turn it over and see what happens
