  • Mike Pender had just gotten off the plane from the UK before this concert. I believe Wayne Fontana was supposed to perform, but he refused to give his thumb print at US Customs the day earlier and got his stubborn ass deported. I surmise that Mike was brought in as a last minute substitute. He was backed by local musicians and Jon Washngton's Fortunes. The programme was recorded for later broadcast on the Public Broadcasting Network. This video was taken with a pocket still camera.

  • who's that guy on the right with curly hair?

  • He's a member of Jon Washington's Sounds of the Fortunes and a former member of the Ohio Express.

  • Doesnt that Rickenbacker sound SO sweet!!

  • @1Phoebus you mean Frank as Tony not only hasnt performed with John while Spencer is in the band he of course sadly is dead he has performed on stage in 1999 with Mike so keep on "searching" for the facts

  • I saw the "Mike Pender's Searchers" in a concert at Stoke-On-Trent, and he seems to struggle with the songs...or he jsut doesn't get the right guys for his back up band. ON the other hand, I've seen John McNally and Tony and Spencer put on a vbery tight, harmonic show in Las Vegas...Mike may be one of the original Searchers...but hes still "serchin'" for the right sound...^/^

  • @eugeneBo is mike using american backing musicians they are going to far with airport security I wouldnt want to be subjected to that thats why i dont travel i get into enough trouble at home when the searchers were in new york in the 80s { the same tour as the videos with the funny green color] they were on the radio on an oldies station WCBSFM the dj said hows edna

  • @bazzwell

I agree - he is a poor substitute.

  • @Palandy33

yawn yawn yawn ..................why do you HAVE to keep banging on about why Mr White Socks is superior? It doesn't matter whether the other lot play to a hall of 100 seats, they've earned more than Pender over the years - period. More gigs = more money.

  • this guy still has it- love mike pender

  • Mike Pender is the Searchers. He is the voice and 12 string guitar sound of the Searchers. When he plays, either on his own or with his group MPS, he keeps to the original Searchers sound and beat of the songs. The present Searchers are a good act, but not true to the sound.

Mike on this clip is excellent, even with some suspect backing musicians.

  • He sings this song better than Spencer thingamyjigger, even with a group he doesn't appear to know!
