@ladyinpink5 Hoover was a fool who tried to "correct" the economy by leading employers to not cut wages or jobs at a time of severe deflation. His policy was a disaster. The depression started not in the US and had nothing to do with credit excesses of Americans (nor would Coolidge EVER encourage anyone to spend too much - that idea proves you don't know anything about Silent Cal) . Problems with the gold standard and Fed monetary policy were the root causes of the Depression

Hoover was a good man who lacked imagination as president and got a bad overall rep. He was a brilliant cabinet officer, a self-made man, and an outstanding humanitarian.
It's a shame he has been rated below Coolidge and Harding.

Hoover was a good president who got a bad rep because he was president during the depression. In reality it was Coolage's falt for campaining on, "A car in every garage and a chicken in every pot." american's bought those things with credit and then couldn't pay them back. That's how the depression started so don't blame it on Hoover.
