Visian ICL (Intraocular Contact Lens) is the latest alternative to LASIK, SBK, and Epi-LASIK. The Staar Collamer Phakic Implant corrects 3 to 16 diopters of nearsightedness with an almost instant return of stable, sharp, clear vision. James Lewis, MD, of the Wills Eye Surgical Network and The Pennsylvania College of Optometry, narrates and performs this surgery. Originally the ICL was considered for patients not suitable for LASIK. It is now considered an alternative that may be better than LASIK for many. There are less halos, starbursts and glare and absolutely no dry eye, regression or corneal issues after surgery. Dr. Lewis uses the Zeiss Visante™ (OCT: Optical Coherence Tomographer) to assess the patients both pre and post-operatively.

  • would ICL be a (reversible) cure for my hyperopia? I am farsigthed about 2+ on my right and 4+ on my left eye. I could cope well by acommodating so far but now as I'm 39 years old, acommodating gets harder for my eyes of course. Thanks a lot for an answer

  • @nutcake72 Hang on. Hyperopic trials are making reasonable progress. However, presbyopia is not fixed by the ICL. In time, that will also be addressed.

  • No!

  • My patients get IV sedation and some doctors use one rather than two "small" incisions. I like the control and safety of this approach. Congratulations, it is a great surgery. Our cost for bilateral ICLs is $5000 TOTAL (no additional fees).

  • Not at all. You are given IV sedation and dream through the entire process.
