this soundtrack is so freaking overlooked and goes great with the CGI... this video made me feel like when i first saw this when i was a kid and being totally freaked out about the mystery and wonder of scifi that you just can't get anymore even with the good new hard scifi movies like contact

@Scifimaster92 We are ten thousand kilometers away from the monolith, I can't see it yet, except I know it's there, I also think it knows we're here. It's time to unleash Chandra, we'll see if our computer brain surgeon and psychiatrist can put Hal back together again. To tell you the truth I don't know if Hal is homicidal, suicidal, neurotic, psychotic, or just plain broken.

I wonder if a HAL computer could be programed. Voice recognition would have to be assosiated with images that the computer would have to understand like a normal human.

@mrweberandi As much as I love the Discovery, the Leonov was too me a cooler spacecraft. The filmmakers designed it well with the Soviet/Russian feel to it.

@DevilMaster the book was written during the filming of the movie. by Arthur Clarke's own admission, Kubrick was virtually dictating the story to him. the whole concept for 2001 was Kubrick's idea. Clarke said he had no problem with the end of the movie at all
